The 21st Century has brought all sorts of new tech and sounds as artists experimented more and more. It is hard to find an artist today who doesn't utilize some sort synth. Artists like AWOLNATION, an indie rock band, create spine-tingling soundscapes and emotional connections through deep analog synthesis.
Jack Antonoff is a prolific music producer and synthesizer fanatic. He is a member of the band fun., performs under the stage name Bleachers, and has produced everyone from Lorde, Sara Bareilles, Sia, and Taylor Swift, sampling from his wide collection analog synthesizers. With his song "Don't Take The Money," Jack Antonoff says, "I wanted it ti be something that could exist in this big celebration of a song," (Antonoff). Using a Lynn Drum machine, he started playing with the sounds. He then added his guitar, which led him to his Moog.
Ever since Leon Theremin's fascinating invention, music has never been the same. Synthesizers create sounds that people can relate to. Over time, Synthesizers have changed, creating more complex sounds ranging from deep tonalities to high pitched ear candy. It is hard to touch the surface of synthesis and how much it has influenced most, if not all genres of music.
AWOLNATION's "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" used analog synthesis throughout.
Jack Antonoff's "Don't Take The Money" used a Minimoog Model D, a Lin Drum and a long list of other synthesizers.
